What is the name of the reaction to produce polymers?
Polymerisation
1 of 7
Give 3 examples of what polymers and why?
They're not biodegradable and so can't be broken down by microbes which can lead to problems with waste disposal
2 of 7
Which are the two ways ethanol can be produced?
Hydration of ethene- produced by adding hydrating ethene with steam/ water vapour in the presence of a catalysist- ethene + water = ethanol, Fermentation with yeast- sugar = carbon dioxide + ethanol
3 of 7
What are the advantages of hydration with ethene?
It's continuous, it's fast, it's efficient and it's cheap
4 of 7
What are the disadvantages of hydration with ethene?
It's dangerous, uses lots of energy, it will run out and it will become expensive
5 of 7
What are the advantages of fermentation with yeast?
It's renewable and cheaper
6 of 7
What are the temperatures and conditions needed for hydration with yeast?
