What is Plato's theory of form?
Out form is material so is in constant change so we cannot find truth, truths must be elsewhere in a non material world, we can recognise "beauty" as we have an innate understanding of it and objects in this world particpate in the form of beauty.

Before our mortal births our souls were in the world of forms, after birth our souls are trapped in this world and we forget our knowledge. The sould years for knowledge which is regained through reason

The form of the good is at the top and allows us to see concepts and objects

Prisoners are chained in a dark cave and they only see shadows which they know as the truth, There is a high wall where men are carrying vessels and they talk making the prsoners think that the shadows speak

What happens when the prisoner escapes?
He will suffer sharp pain and will be daxzzled by the light and the beauty of everything, He will ask himself where the animals and the flowers came from, he will look at the sun and realise that is where they came from

What happens when the prisoner returns to the cave?
He wil go back to the cave to tell the prisoners al he knows and they will want to kill him. The escapeeis unacustomed to the dark so cannot see as clearly as he used to

It relates to the sun and provides some type of enlightenment
