Plants and Climate Change

?
What happens to the environment as a result of climate change?
It gets warmer (2-3 degree increase) and there are more frequent extreme conditions
1 of 9
What is amelioration?
The melting of ice and re-invasion
2 of 9
What has climate change done to biomes?
There has been dramatic shifts to biomes causing certain species to be restricted
3 of 9
Why has the planet warmed up?
Deforestation, urbanisation (traffic etc), pollutants, farming
4 of 9
What is coral bleaching?
Coral has a symbiotic relationship with algae, when the oceans start to increase in temp, the coral expels the algae and so it looses its major source of nutrients and looses its colour and eventually dies
5 of 9
How will temperature increase affect crop yield?
The increase in temperature will mean that water availability will be limited and so there will be water stress on the crops, reducing crop yield
6 of 9
How will climate change impact species diversity?
We will face up 30% species extinction so it will lower species diversity
7 of 9
How will climate change mean that more methane is released?
Melting of permafrost will release methane bubbles
8 of 9
How will climate change impact malnutrition?
Malnutrition is likely to increase by 20% by 2050
