Name 5 plant hormones
Auxins, Cytokinins, Gibberellins, Ethene, Absicisic acid
1 of 12
What do auxins do?
Promote cell elongation in meristems + inhibit growth of side shoots + inhibit leaf fall.
2 of 12
What do cytokinins do?
promote cell division in meristems
3 of 12
What's the use of gibberllins?
to promote seed germination + growth of stems
4 of 12
What does ethene do?
promote fruit ripening
5 of 12
What does absicisic acid do?
inhibits seed germination and growth + causes stomata to close when plant is under stress and there's not enough water for plants
6 of 12
Where are plants able to grow?
meristems
7 of 12
Why are plants only able to grow at meristems?
Because cells wall in plants limit their ability to grow everywhere else. Meristems contain groups of immature cells that are capable of cell division
8 of 12
How are growth subtances/plant hormones transported?
transported by active transport/diffusion + in phloem sap/xylem vessels
9 of 12
What two processes are needed for cell growth?
cell division and cell elongation
10 of 12
What hormone causes cell division?
cytokinins
11 of 12
what hormone causes cell elongation?
auxins
