Nucleus.
Controls the cell's activities. It contains chromosomes, which carry the genes.
1 of 8
Cytoplasm.
Surrounds the nucleus; a jelly-like fluid and food material. It is here that complex chemical reactions take place, building up materials and supplying energy for the cell’s activities.
2 of 8
Cell surface membrane.
Made of a fatty-protein material and having small pores for materials to pass through. This controls the passage of substances in and out of the cell.
3 of 8
Cell Wall.
Found only in plant cells and composed of cellulose. It gives the cell its shape and helps to provide structural support.
4 of 8
Cell vacuole.
Full of cell sap, and a feature of plant cells. The fluid helps to keep the cell firm.
5 of 8
Chloroplasts.
Found in plant cells. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll which absorbs light energy to make food in the process of photosynthesis.
6 of 8
Ribosomes.
This is where proteins are made from amino acids.
7 of 8
Mitochondria.
Make ATP, the cell's energy store. Aerobic respiration occurs inside the mitochondria of our cells and release a great deal of energy.
