Upper Epidermis (Epidermal Tissue)
This covers the whole plant. It is transparent. Lets light through to the palisade layer.

Palisade Mesophyll Tissue
This has lots of chloroplasts. They are near the top of the leaf to get more light

Spongy Mesophyll Tissue
This contains air spaces which increase the rate of diffusion of gases.

Stomata
These let gases diffuse into and out of the leaf. They are opened and closed in response to the environment. They are controlled by the guard cells.

Meristem Tissue
This is found at the growing tips of shoots and roots

Xylem and Phloem
These bring water and nutrients to the leaf and take away glucose produced by photosynthesis. They also support the leaf.
