what is the main assumption of the Physiological Approach?
the main assumption of this study is that behaviour is determined by biology. for example individual differences that occur in our DNA making us more or less intelligent than others or the capacity of our memory.
1 of 12
what experimental method do Physiological researchers prefer?
laboratory experiments. this is because they allow high levels of control which makes it easier to manipulate variables which out the effect of confounding variables changing the results.
2 of 12
what is the Nervous System?
the nervous system is what connects the brain to the rest of the body so it is able to send messages to our body telling it to do things.
3 of 12
what is the Limbic System?
the limbic system is a set of brain structures including the hippocampus and the amygdala which controls things such as emotions and long-term memory.
4 of 12
what is the Hippocampus?
this is the part of the brain that is concerned with memory and spatial navigation.
5 of 12
what studies are included in this approach?
Dement and Kleitman, Sperry, Maguire.
6 of 12
what do Dement and Kreitman study?
Dement and Kleitman study the relationship between eye movement and dreaming.
7 of 12
what is REM sleep?
REM sleep is a period of time whilst asleep when Rapid Eye Movement occurs. this is often when we are dreaming.
8 of 12
what does Sperry study?
Sperry studies how people with split hemispheres of the brain function.
9 of 12
what does Maguire study?
Maguire studies the possibility that the volume of the hippocampus can change when people have extreme experiences of spatial navigation.
10 of 12
what is voxel-based morphology?
Voxel- Based Morphology is a method of analysing scans, this method produces three dimensional images of the brain.
11 of 12
what is pixel counting?
Pixel Counting is a method of analysing scans, this method produces two dimensional images of the brain.
