?
name the inner planets?
inner planets: mercury, venus, earth and mars
1 of 9
name the outer planets?
jupiter, saturn, uranus and neptune
2 of 9
difference between stars and planets.
stars are hug, very hot and very far away and give out light. planets are smaller and reflect the sun light and also much closer then stars.
3 of 9
how did the sun form?
the solar system formed from big clouds of dust and gas. one cloud squeezed slightly. it kept getting closer to which gravity took over and it collapsed on itself. at the centre formed a protostar and it got hot enough for fusion to occur.
4 of 9
how did planets form?
material around the sun like helium, hydrogen and heavier elements clumped together to form planets.
5 of 9
milky way
the sun is one of thousands of millions of stars which form the milky way. the distance between neigbouring stars in a galaxy is millions of times greater then distances between planets in the solar system.
6 of 9
universe
the universe is made of thousands of millions of galaxies and galaxies are made of thousands of millions of stars. the universe is mostly empty space and very big.
7 of 9
space distances measured in light years.
a light year is the distance light travels through a vacuum in one year. light travels at 300000km/s so 1 light year=9460000000000km.
8 of 9
relative sizes, distances and ages.
(small to large in diametre) earth, sun, earths orbit, solar system, sun to nearest star, milky way, distance from milky wayto nearest galaxy. earth=5000 million years old, sun=5000 million years old, universe=14000 million years old.
