Wgat happens when a Ultrasound wave reach a boundary between two substances with different densities?
They re partly reflected back. The rest of the waves continue to pass through.

What is a Dectector ? and Why is it used?
It can measure the time between an ultrasound wave leaving the source and it reaching the detector. The further the boundary the longer the time taken.

How is the distance travelled by an ultrasound wave calculated?
S = V x T S= Distance in M V= Speed in M/S T= Time in S
