WHY DOES A BALLOON EXPAND WHEN HOT?
because there is more kinetic energy.
1 of 7
WHAT IS CONDUCTION?
the transfer of heat between solids. Caused by a heat difference between parts. gets more kinetic energy and passes from particle to particle.
2 of 7
WHY IS METAL A GOOD CONDUCTOR?
because metal has many electrons that are free to move through the metal. these electrons transfer energy very quickly as they travel through the metal, and when you heat one end of an object, the particles start vibrating more.
3 of 7
WHAT IS CONVECTION?
the transfer of heat by the circulation or movement of the heated parts of the liquid or gas.
4 of 7
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PARTICLES IN CONVECTION?
the hot particles rise as less dense, and the cold particles sink as more dense.
5 of 7
WHAT IS RADIATION?
the process in which energy is emitted as a wave (or particles).
6 of 7
WHY CAN YOU FEEL HEAT FROM A LIGHTBULB?
because the closer you put your hand, you feel heat because it is radiated heat energy
