What is mass and how is it measured?
Mass is how much 'stuff' is inside something. It is measured in g or kg.
1 of 24
What is density? What's it measured in? How can we find it?
Density is the space that mass occupies. It is measured in g per cm cubed or kg per m cubed. To find it you have to do mass divided by volume.
2 of 24
What is the density of a rock that has a mass of 27 kg and a volume of 0.01 m cubed?
2700 m cubed/kg.
3 of 24
How do you find volume?
Mass divided by density.
4 of 24
What can forces do?
Push or pull an object, speed things up, slow things down, change direction or shape etc.
5 of 24
Forces are measured in what unit?
Newtons.
6 of 24
What is gravity?
A non-contact force that pulls objects down to the ground.
7 of 24
What is air resistance?
A contact force that slows things down when moving through the air.
8 of 24
What is friction?
A contact force that happens when you have two surfaces in contact with eachother, and they can slow each other down. the rougher the surface is the more friction.
9 of 24
Emily is climbing. Where does she need high friction?
In her shoes to stop her from slipping and from falling.
10 of 24
Swimmers can reduce their drag by...
wearing close fitting costumes so they are streamlined.
11 of 24
What is weight? How can it be found?
It's the force of gravity acting on an object. It's measured in newtons. Weight= mass(kg) times gravitational pull.
12 of 24
What is gravitational field strength?(g) Can it change? How do you find it?
The strength of gravity at a particular point, measured in newtons er kilogram ( N/kg). It can change because the further away from the centre of the Earth, the weaker the gravitational field. G= weight divided by mass.
13 of 24
What is a force that tries to push an object up in the water?
Upthrust.
14 of 24
How do you find speed?
Distance divided by time.
15 of 24
Time?
Distance divided by speed.
16 of 24
Distance?
Speed times time.
17 of 24
How can you tell on a graph, that an object is not moving?
There would just be a straight line going across it.
18 of 24
How can you tell if an object is at constant speed?
There would be a line going diagonally upwards.
19 of 24
What does this mean: 60 miles/h
travels 60 miles in each hour.
20 of 24
Two forces are trying to make a cyclist slow down. They are...
Friction and air resistance.
21 of 24
If upthrust and gravity are equal to each other on an object, what would the olect do?
It would stay the same because it's a balanced force.
22 of 24
If an object is accelerating or slowing down, the forces will be...
unbalanced.
23 of 24
What f is used to measure force?
force meter.
