?
What planet did Ancient Greeks think was the centre of the Universe?
Earth
1 of 31
What name was given to the Greeks idea of orbiting?
Geocentric model
2 of 31
What time period did they replace the Greek geocentric model?
1600's
3 of 31
What did the heliocentric model state?
The Earth and Planets orbit the sun as the sun is the centre of the universe
4 of 31
How did Galilo prove that the geocentric model was wrong?
1610.He observed jupiter and saw what he believed were stars but later found out when the stars had moved (but stayed with Jupiter) and a 4th 'star' came that they were moons.
5 of 31
How do planets orbit the sun?
Elliptical
6 of 31
How can you see planets and stars through a telescope ?
The stars give out visable rays because they are hot and planets reflect sunlight.
7 of 31
What do ALL waves have? (Visable light, ultrasounds, infrared)
Wavelength, Frequency, Amplitude, Speed
8 of 31
What does Wavelength measure?
The distance between one peak to the next.
9 of 31
What does Frequency measure?
How many complete waves there are per second. ( Measures in hertz;Hz. High frequencies are kHz
10 of 31
What does Amplitude measure?
The height of the wave, mid-line to the peak.
11 of 31
What does the Speed measure?
How fast it goes.
12 of 31
What do waves transfer?
Energy and information. - without transporting matter.
13 of 31
What formula do you use when working out speed, frequency and wavelength?
Speed= Frequency times Wavelength.
14 of 31
What formula do you use to work out wave speed, distance and time?
Wave speed= Distance divide by Time.
15 of 31
What is a Transverse wave?
The waves are at at a 90 degree angle to the direction of the wave. Examples; light and electromagnetic, s waves and water.
16 of 31
What is a longitudinal wave?
The vibrations are the same direction as the travel. Example sound and p waves. They are fat and travel through liquids.
17 of 31
Can a wave be reflected?
Yes.
18 of 31
Can waves be refracted?
Yes.
19 of 31
How does refraction work on waves?
Sound, light waves change speed when the cross the boundary between 2 substances at different densitys, glass, air, it causes it to bend.
20 of 31
What is a real image?
Is where light form an object comes together to form an image on a screen.
21 of 31
What is a virtual image?
When the rays diverging so the light from the object appears to be coming from a different place.
22 of 31
What are lenses usually made from?
Plastic or Glass.
23 of 31
What do all lenses do?
They change the direction of light rays by refraction.
24 of 31
What are Converging Lenses used for?
Used to focus light.
25 of 31
What are the characteristics of a Converging lens?
Its convex and it bulges outwards.
26 of 31
How does a Coverging lens work?
It makes parallel rays of light to move together to a focus.
27 of 31
What two telescopes use Converging lenses?
Refracting and Reflection
28 of 31
How many lenses does a refracting lense use?
2
29 of 31
What Converging lenses are in a Refracting telescope?
Objective and Eyepiece
30 of 31
What do Reflecting Telescope use?
Mirrors and Converging lens
