Physics P1 1.1 Infrared radiation

?
What is infrared radiation?
Infrared radiation is energy transfer by electromagnetic waves.
1 of 13
What emits infrared radiation?
All objects emit infrared radiation.
2 of 13
How does heat effect how much infrared radiation an object emits?
The hotter an object is the more infrared radiation it emits in a given time.
3 of 13
What are infrared waves part of?
The electromagnetic spectrum.
4 of 13
Where on the spectrum are infrared waves?
They are the part of the spectrum just beyond visible red light.
5 of 13
How can we detect infrared radiation?
We can detect infrared radiation with our skin - it makes us feel warm.
6 of 13
What does emit mean?
To give off.
7 of 13
How do we get energy from the Sun?
Infrared radiation can travel through a vacuum, as in travelling through space, this is how we get energy from the Sun.
8 of 13
Does the transfer of energy by infrared radiation involve particles?
No!!!
9 of 13
How does the temperature of an object affect the rate at which it emits infrared radiation?
The higher the temperature of an object the greater the rate at which it emits infrared radiation.
10 of 13
What is a vacuum?
A vacuum is a region that doesn't contain anything at all, even gas particles.
11 of 13
How is infrared radiation able to travel through a vacuum?
Because the transfer of infrared radiation does not require particles.
