What's a moment? What's the equation for it? and how do you increase the moment?
Turning effect of a force. M=Force x distance. 1)larger force 2)longer distance from pivot
1 of 10
Where's the centre of mass from an object? What is it?
Hanging directly below the point of suspension. Point at which the whole mass is concentrated
2 of 10
How do you find the centre of mass on a flat shape?
1)Suspend shape and plumb line from same point. 2)Draw a line along plumb line. 3)Repeat from a different pivot point, where the lines cross is the centre of mass.
3 of 10
How do you know if the moments are equal?
Total Anticlockwise moment = Total clockwise moment
4 of 10
What do levers do?
They are force multipliers, increasing distance from pivot meaning less force is needed for same moment
5 of 10
When will there be a resultant moment?
If the anticlockwise moments do not equal the clockwise moments, the object will turn
6 of 10
What increases stability? Where does the line of action of the weight of the object lie in order fro it to topple?
Low centre of mass and wide base. Outside it's base
7 of 10
What's a time period? What's the equation for it and how do you increase it?q
Time taken for a pendulum to swing from one side to the other and back. T=1/frequency. increase the length of the pendulum
8 of 10
Liquids are incompressible because? How is pressure transmitted in a liquid?
Their volume and density stays the same. equally in all directions.
9 of 10
What's the equation for pressure? How's it used in a hydraulics system?
P= force/cross-sectional area. Used as a force multiplier so small force on small area makes the same pressure as large force on large area
