Physics key terms - chapter 4

?
Current
The rate of flow of charge - I=Q/t
1 of 7
One Coulomb
1C is the amount of charge passing any point in a circuit when a current of 1A flows for 1s
2 of 7
Potential difference
There is a p.d of 1V between two points in a circuit 1J of electrical energy is converted into other forms when 1C of charge passes between two points - V=W/Q
3 of 7
Electromotive force
A battery or cell has an e.m.f of 1V when 1J of chemical energy is converted into electrical energy when 1C of charge passes through it - V=W/Q
4 of 7
Ohm's law
The p.d across a conductor is directly proportional to the current flowing through it providing that the temperature of the conductor remains constant V=IR
5 of 7
Resistance
The ratio of the potential difference across a conductor to the current flowing through it - R=V/I
6 of 7
One ohm
There is a resistance of 1Ω between two points in a circuit if there is a p.d of 1V across them when the current is 1A
