what is the formula that relates distance, speed and time
distance= speed x time
1 of 22
what does the gradient on a distance-time graph show?
the speed
2 of 22
what does the gradient on a speed-time graph show?
the acceleration
3 of 22
what do flat sections on a distance-time graph represent?
where it is stopped
4 of 22
what do flat sections on a speed-time graph represent?
where it is moving at a steady speed
5 of 22
what is the equation for acceleration?
change in speed ÷ time taken
6 of 22
in what three ways does friction occur?
- between solid surfaces which are gripping - between solid surfaces which are sliding past each other - resistance from fluids (liquids or gases)
7 of 22
What effect does balenced forces have on an object?
it will keep moving in the same direction at the same speed
8 of 22
what effect does unbalanced forces have on an object?
the object will accelerate, decelerate, change direction, stop or start
9 of 22
what two things does stopping distance consist of?
thinking distance and braking distance
10 of 22
what are factors affect thinking distance?
how fast you are going, tiredness, distractions, drugs, alcohol
11 of 22
what factors affect braking distance?
how fast you are going, the weight of the vehicle and contents of the vehicle, condition of the brakes, weather conditions
12 of 22
what is the equation for momentum?
momentum=mass x velocity
13 of 22
what are the units for momentum?
(kgm/s)
14 of 22
what are the units for velocity?
(m/s)
15 of 22
what are the units for force?
N
16 of 22
What are the units for work done?
J
17 of 22
how are crumple zones a care safety feature?
in a crash they crumple and change shape on impact which increases the time take for the care to stop which therefore absorbs some of the kinetic energy of the car
18 of 22
how are ABS brakes used for car safety?
they help the driver to keep control of the car's steering when braking hardas the ordinary brakes lock the wheels si they cant turn, causing the car to skid. The ABS brakes then pump on and off to stop the wheels locking and to prevent skidding.
19 of 22
what is gravitational potential energy?
the energy something has because of its height above the ground
20 of 22
what is kinetic energy and what does it depend on?
the energy it has when moving. It is affected by its mass and speed
21 of 22
what things does a cars fuel consumption depend on?
the size of the engine, how the car is driven, the mass of the car, the speed it is driven at and the road conditions
