what is the difference between speed and velocity?
speed is how fast you are going. velocity is how fast you are going and the direction in which you are moving.
1 of 20
speed
speed = distance / time
2 of 20
distance time graphs
gradient = speed. flat sections are where its stationary. straight lines means its travelling at a steady speed.downhill means its going back to the starting point.curves means acceleration or decelleration
3 of 20
acceleration
how quickly velovity is changing- acceleration = change in velocity / time taken
4 of 20
velocity time graphs
gradient is thwe acceleration. flat sections are a steady speed. the steeper the graph the greater the acceleration. downhill is decelleration. distance travelled = the area under the graph
5 of 20
gravity
things accelerate towards the ground at 10 meters per second per second and gives everything its weight
6 of 20
weight and mass, whats the difference?
weight is the force of gravity pulling it down whereas mass is the amount of stuff in an object
7 of 20
the equation linking mass and weight
weight = mass x gravity
8 of 20
what do things need to move
an object needs a resultant force to be applied on them to move
9 of 20
force
force = mass x acceleration
10 of 20
what does friction do?
friction acts in the opposite direction of your movement and stops you/slows you down
11 of 20
what happens when objects fall?
when they first fall, gravity is much than the frictional force slowing them down,so they accelerate. as the speed incereases the friction builds up. this gradually reduces the acceleration until the forces are equal this is terminal velocity
12 of 20
relationship between speed and friction
as the speed increases friction increases
13 of 20
what affects stopping distance?
the speed you are travelling at, thinking time and braking distance
14 of 20
work done
wok done = force x distance
15 of 20
gravitational potential energy
GPE = mass x gravity x height it is the energy an object has because of its height
16 of 20
work done
work done is the kinetic energy transferred
17 of 20
*equation*
kinetic energy gained = potential energy lost
18 of 20
elastic potential energy
F =K x E
19 of 20
power
power = energy transferred / time taken
