What is an electric current and a direct current?
An electric current in a wire is a flow of electrons. The current supplied by cells and batteries is the direct current.
1 of 11
What is the size of a current? Give the units of Charge and the equation to calculate it.
The size of a current is the rate of flow of charged particles. The unit of charge is coulomb (C) and the equation is Q(coulombs)= I (ampere) x T (seconds)
2 of 11
What is the current in an electric circuit measured by?
An Ammeter.
3 of 11
What is the potential difference measured by?
A voltmeter, placed in parallel with the component.
4 of 11
What is potential difference?
The potential difference is the energy transferred by each coulomb of a charge that passes through a component.
5 of 11
What is resistance caused by?
An electric current flows when electrons move through a conductor, such as a metal wire. The moving electrons can collide with the ions in the metal. This makes it more difficult for the current to flow, and causes resistance.
6 of 11
How do you work out resistance?
RΩ=V/I
7 of 11
What are thermistors and what are they used for?
A thermistor is a specific type of resistor that uses sensors to help regulate cold and heat. They are also used for voltage regulation, volume control, time delays, and circuit protection.
8 of 11
What is Power and what are the units?
Power is a measure of how quickly energy is transferred. The unit of power is the watt, W.
9 of 11
What is the equation for Power?
P = E ÷ T
10 of 11
How do you calculate the energy transferred?
E = V×Q
