?
what is temperature a measure of?
temperature is a measure of how hot something is.
1 of 19
what do we measure temprature in?
we measure temperature in degrees Celsius.
2 of 19
what is heat a measurement of?
heat is a measurement of energy and is measured in joules.
3 of 19
temperature changes.
if there is a difference in the temperature between an object and its surroundings then heat energy flows from the hotter region to the cooler region.
4 of 19
If an objects temperature rises what does it take in?
if an objects temperature rises it is taking in heat energy.
5 of 19
If an objects temperature falls what does it give out?
If an objects temperature falls it is giving out heat energy.
6 of 19
what does the amount of energy to rise depend on?
The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of an object depends on the mass of the object the change in temperature required and the material that its made from.
7 of 19
specific heat capacity.
Each material has a value of how much energy it can hold. this is known as specific heat capacity, specific heat capacity is the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of material by 1 degrees.
8 of 19
melting and boiling.
energy is needed to melt or boil substances this is why the temperature of a material dosent change when its at the point of boiling melting or freezing.
9 of 19
How do people design features in the home to save energy.
save energy by reducing heat loss by conduction convention and radiation.
10 of 19
what is energy efficiency?
Energy efficiency is a measure of how good an appliance is at converting input energy into useful output energy.
11 of 19
Transfer of heat energy.
air is a good insulatorr becuase the particles are far apart. if air is trapped in a material the material will be an insulator.
12 of 19
what is conduction?
conduction is the transfere of heat energy through a substance from a hotter region to a cooler region without any movement of the substance itself.
13 of 19
what is convection?
convection is the transfer of heat energy from hotter regions to cooler regions by the movement of particles.
14 of 19
what is light?
light is a transverse wave. a transverse wave has the following features of amplitude- the distance between corresponding points on two successive disturbances, also frequency the number of waves produced in one second.
15 of 19
what is the electromagnetic spectrum?
it is a continuous spectrum that extends beyond each end of the visible spectrum for light this includes microwaves and infrared radiation.
16 of 19
what is reflection?
light or another electromagnetic wave can be reflected from multiple surfaces.
17 of 19
what is refraction?
a wave that will speed up or slow down as it passes from one medium material into another this can cause the wave to change direction and is known as refraction.
18 of 19
what is diffraction?
as waves pass through a gap or an opening such as a door the edges spread out this is difraction.
