What is red-shift ?
When an object moves away from an observer, its light is affected by the Doppler effect. Redshift and blueshift describe how light changes as objects in space (such as stars or galaxies) move closer or farther away from us.

Evidence: The light from other galaxies is red-shifted.
Interpretation: The other galaxies are moving away from us.

Evidence: The further away a galaxy is, the more its light is red-shifted.
Interpretation: The most likely explanation is that the whole universe is expanding. This supports the theory that the start of the universe could have been from a single explosion.
