They are pairs of muscles that work together to creat movement, the agonist muscle shortens and the antagonistic muscle lengthens.

Type 1 uses oxygen and are slow twitch, marathon runner. Type 2a is less oxygenated and fast twitch, 400m. Type 2x do not use oxygen and very fast, 100m.

Anaerobic Respiration is a small period of time of high intensity work without oxygen in which lactic acid is acumilated and oxygen debt is caused.
