Cardiovascular Disease
Older people develop narrowing of the arteries and opther blood vessels due to fats being laid down in the walls. Fatty deposits can break away/block the artery, causing Angina.

Degeneration Of The Nervous Tissue
Brain functions begin to decline, ability to use words/vocab decline after age 70. Cognitive/intellectual are maintained until 80. Reaction time becomes slower as brain processes nerve impulses slowly.

Osteoarthritis
Wear/tear of joints. Causes joints to become painful and stiff, especially hips kness neck lower back hands and feet. Some experience occasional mild symptoms whereas others experience severe/constant problems. Appears late 40s - age 75.

> 5% over 65 + 20% over 80 are affected by dementia. Brain disorder that affects persons ability to carry out daily activities/tasks. 2 types - Alzheimers disease + Vascular dementia.

Alzheimer's Disease
Most common form of dementia. Trouble with STM + recalling names of people, lose ability to carry out particular tasks. Usually begins after age 60, more common if family member has had condition. No treatment to cure or prevent.

Effects Of Illnesses
Wider effects on holistic development, can worsen stress/depression for many older people. Physical aches + pains associated with arthritis. Restrict a persons social life, difficulty getting out. Loss of bladder control + insomnia.
