Photosynthesis

HideShow resource information
What is the equation for Photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water --- Glucose and Oxygen (Need sunlight and chlorophyll)
1 of 10
What do Chloroplasts do?
They contain chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight and converts CO2 to energy (glucose)
2 of 10
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis?
Light Intensity, Carbon Dioxide, Temperature
3 of 10
What can be done to create the ideal conditions for farming?
Grow plants in a greenhouse because it helps to trap the suns heat, farmers also use artificial light, increase the amount of CO2
4 of 10
What is a benefit of keeping plants in a greenhouse?
Keeps them free from pests and diseases, farmer can add fertiliser to provide all the minerals needed, if conditions are kept right plants grow faster and there's a bigger yield making the farmer more money
5 of 10
How do plants use Glucose?
For Repiration, Making cell walls, Making proteins, converted into insoluble starch and stored in the stem, leaves or roots, used to produce fat/oil
6 of 10
How are Proteins made in plants?
Glucose is combined with nitrate ions (absorbed from the soil) to make amino acids which are then made into proteins
7 of 10
What are the physical factors which affect the distribution of organisms?
Temperature, Availability of nutrients, Amount of Light, Amount of water, Availability of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide
8 of 10
List two methods of sampling the distribution of Daisies in a field?
Random sampling with a quadrat, sampling along a transect
9 of 10
Where does photosynthesis happen?
Leaves are the main site, and it mainly occurs in the mesophyll cells
