Define the term Photosynthesis
A process that plant manufacture carbohydrates from raw materials using chlorophyll and energy from light.
1 of 7
Word equation of photosynthesis
carbon dioxide + water --> glucose + oxygen
2 of 7
Balanced equation of photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O ------> C6H12O6 + 6O2
3 of 7
Limiting factors of photosynthesis
Temperature, carbon dioxide, light intensity
4 of 7
If volume of carbon dioxide increases...
the rate of photosynthesis increases.
5 of 7
If temperature increases...
the rate of photosynthesis increases until it reaches the optimum temperature (about at 40°C) above this the rate drops quickly because the enzymes in photosynthesis are being destroyed/ denatured.
6 of 7
If the light intensity increases...
the rate of photosynthesis will increase but too strong light can damage chloroplasts which contain lots of chlorophyll. Some woodland plants prefer dim light and they're called "shadow plants".
