What is a photoautotroph?
They use sunlight to produce organic compounds which intern provides the plant with their own energy
1 of 10
Where does photosynthesis take place and why ?
In chloroplasts of plant cells due to this organelle containing chlorophyll
2 of 10
Where does the light dependent reaction take place ?
Thylakoid membranes located inside chloroplasts where there are many enzymes and protein complexes
3 of 10
What are the protein complex machines involved in?
The production of ATP and hydrogen carriers which are needed in the light independent reaction
4 of 10
How are the important molecules first made during the light dependent reaction?
By the slitting of a water molecule and light absorption by p680 chlorophyll to give an electron
5 of 10
What happens at photosystem 1 when the knocked off electron arrives there?
Further sunlight is absorbed by p700 chlorophyll which causes a boost in energy
6 of 10
What happens during the light independent reaction?
CO2 fixation takes place by the Calvin cycle by an enzyme called Rubisco.
7 of 10
Where does the light independent reaction take place and what is NADPH and ATP used for?
Happens in the stroma of chloroplasts where NADPH and ATP are used for reducing components of the cycle to eventutally make carbohydrates and other organic molecules
8 of 10
What does higher rates of photosynthesis mean for the uptake of water?
Higher amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere means high rates of photosynthesis but also means the stomata on leaves (through CO2 diffuses through) are open for less time, and subsequently this results in less uptake of water and transpiration
9 of 10
How does higher rates of CO2 in the atmosphere cause less transpiration?
The chain of water molecules that exit the plant via the stomatat can no longer do so due to the stomata being closed
