Photosynthesis

?
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is how plants produce food using the suns energy.
1 of 13
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
water+carbon dioxide=glucose+oxygen 6H20 + 6CO2 = 6H2O6 + 6O2
2 of 13
Where does photosynthesis happen?
Photosynthesis happens in the chloroplast.
3 of 13
What does the waxy cuticle do? (leaf structure)
The waxy cuticle stop the water evaporating from the leaf.
4 of 13
What does the upper epidermis do? (leaf structure)
The upper epidermis has hardly any chloroplasts which allows the sunlight to pass through to the palliside mesophyll layer.
5 of 13
What does the palisade mesophyll do? (leaf structure)
The palisade mesophyll has a high level of chloroplasts and so is where most of the photosynthesis happens.
6 of 13
What happens in the spongey mesophyll? (leaf structure)
The spongey mesophyll has lots of air space and gas exchange happens.
7 of 13
What does the stoma do? (leaf structure)
The stoma allows the carbon dioxide in and oxygen and water out.
8 of 13
What do the guard cells do? (leaf structure)
The guard cells allow carbon dioxide, oxygen and water out by opening and closing the stoma.
9 of 13
What happens in the stem of a flower?
Xylem carries water up the plant to the leaf and the phloem carries sugar up and down.
10 of 13
What happens in the roots of a flower?
The roots collect water, they have a large surface area to collect more water and the root hair cell is elongated.
11 of 13
What three factors effect the rate of photosynthesis?
Low temperate, Shortage of carbon dioxide and shortage of light.
12 of 13
What physical factors may affect the growth of organisms?
Temperature, Availability of nutrients, Amount of light, Availability of water, Availability of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
