Photosynthesis

?
Photosystem
A protien and photosynthetic pigment structure found in the thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts in plants and algea.
1 of 14
NADP
A coenzyme involved in photosyntheses. It transfers hydrogen from one molecule another.
2 of 14
Light dependent reaction
The first stage of photosynthesis. Light energy is absorbed by photosynthetic pigments and converted to ATP and reduced NADP.
3 of 14
Light independent reaction (Calvin cycle)
The second stage of photosynthesis. Here ATP and reduced NADP (from the light-dependent stage) are used to make glucose from carbon dioxide.
4 of 14
Photophosphorylation
The process of adding phosphate to a molecule using light energy.
5 of 14
Photolysis
The splitting (lysis) of a molecule using light (photo) energy. This occurs during the light-depndent stage of photosynthesis.
6 of 14
Electron transport chain
A chain of protiens through which excited electrons flow.
7 of 14
Thylakoid membrane
The light-dependent reaction during photosynthesis, takes place here.
8 of 14
Photosynthetic Pigments
Coloured substances that absorb the light energy needed for photosynthesis.
9 of 14
Electron carrier
Protiens that transfer electrons.
10 of 14
Stroma
The light-independent reaction during photosynthesis, takes place here.
11 of 14
Chemiosmosis
The process where the movement of protons across a membrane generates ATP.
12 of 14
Excited
Electrons gain energy and move to a higher energy level.
13 of 14
Photosynthesis
The process where energy from light is used to make glucose from water and carbon dioxide.
