Berko and Brown - Phonology
A child referred to his plastic fish as 'fis'. When asked 'is that your 'fis'?' they said 'no'. When asked 'is that your fish?' he said 'yes'. Then continued to call it his 'fis'.

Cruttenden - Phonology
10 year olds has difficulty distinguishing between 'She DRESSED, and fed the baby' and 'she dressed and fed the BABY'.

Brown (1973) - Inflections
Inflections were acquired in a certain order - 'ing', plural 's'', possessive 's'', 'the', 'a', past tense 'ed', third person singular verb ending, auxiliary 'be'.

1st Stage: memorise words on an individual basis and have no regard of general rules. 2nd Stage: Awareness of general principals around inflections so they may apply regular endings to words. 3rd Stage: Correct inflections used.

Jean Berko Wug Test
Instrument developed to allow the child to apply the rules to the language. Children were presented with a picture and used the usual rules of grammar/inflections. Found that children are able to deduce what the plural of a noun would be.

Ursula Bellugi - Negation
Stages of negative formations in young children. 1. Uses 'no' or 'not' at the beginning or end of a sentence. 2. Moves no/not to the middle of the sentence. Attaches the negative to Auxiliary verbs and the copula verb 'be'.
