Explain what is meant by God's omniscience
god knows all logical truths.
1 of 28
Explain why this contradicts free will...
If God knows what we are about to do, and he is omnipotent, he has the ability to stop us. We are not free, God is simply allowing us to act in a certain way.
2 of 28
Explain omniscience's problem with evil...
God knows that evil will occur and does not stop it.
3 of 28
Swinburne's revised idea of omniscience is...(now you're REALLY ******)
God knows all true facts. A statement is not true or false until it has happened. and then, God knows it.
4 of 28
What predicate does that contradict?
immutability
5 of 28
Explain what is meant by God's omnipotence.
God is powerful enough to do anything.
6 of 28
what bit of the bible could bolster that? think genesis.
God created the heavens and the earth
7 of 28
What logical contradiction occurs with omnipotence?
Can God create a stone too heavy for him to lift?
8 of 28
What is Swinburne's revised idea of omnipotence?
God can do anything according to his nature. Logical impossibilities contradict God/his greatness.
9 of 28
What is a problem with God only being able to do what is within his nature? (meaning, no logical impossibilities)
God is bound by logic-not omnipotent.
10 of 28
Quick! a rebuttle of the previous answer.
God may be able to do logical contradictory things, but chooses not to.
11 of 28
What does God's omni-benevolence mean? This one's a two-parter.
He has unconditional love for everything in existence. He is all good.
12 of 28
What is a problem with God's omnibenevolence regarding evil?
If he loves all in existence then he loves evil
13 of 28
What MASSIVE part of religion is contradicted by God's omnibenevolence?
Hell
14 of 28
What is the euthyphro dilemma?
Is something good because god does it, or is God good because he does it?
15 of 28
Explain why something being good because God does it is bad (M'Kay)
Because anything God does, even evil would be deemed as good. Good becomes an EVIL ARBITRARY, it is ruled as right with no reasoning.
16 of 28
also, explain why God being good because he does something good is also bad.
Because God is then ruled by good. he cannot to what is not good.
17 of 28
What is an answer to the Euthyphro dilemma. Because **** you, that's why.
God wills something because he is good. Good is rooted in god, he is its source.
18 of 28
What does God's transcendence mean?
He is outside of space and time, sending Jesus and angels for divine interaction.
19 of 28
Explain a contradiction of transcendence that has to do with the world,
God was inside the garden of Eden.
20 of 28
Explain another one. Go on. A Liona lewis song covers it.
Footprints in the sand. God carries us and is omnipresent. how can he be everywhere and no-where?
21 of 28
Explain God's immanence.
god is everywhere, he is on earth, in time.
22 of 28
What problems are there with that then? Think genesis.
How can he have created the universe? a man outside of a box can't paint the outside.
23 of 28
Now, think about immutability and give us another potential problem.
If God is inside of the world then time must affect him, or he is not fully in this world.
24 of 28
Now, your favourite one- Explain God as eternal
God has always existed and always will exist, outside of time.
25 of 28
might not want this one in the exam, but think of a contradiction to that.
Nothing can come from nothing-God must have had a cause.
26 of 28
God as everlasting. Bring it home.
God has existed for all of time.
27 of 28
Now beat that definition with an iron pole.
God would be contingently dependent on time, he would not be omnipotent.
