Monotheism
The belief that there is only one God eg Islam, Christianity and Judaism (these are called the Abrahamic religions)

The belief that there is more than one god eg. Greek and Roman religions

Some people believe that God is creator of the world/universe eg Christians, Jews and Muslims

Holy Trinity
Christians believe that God is one but has three different persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This is the first part of the trinity – creator – transcendent part of God

This is the third part of the trinity – God in the form of spirit.

The Bible
Is the holy book of Christians – it consists of the Old Testament which is before Jesus and the New Testament which is about Jesus and the early church.

Forgiveness
Forgiveness means letting someone off something bad that they have done – it is an important part of the Christian faith. People are forgiven by God and should forgive each other.

Transcendent
Outside the world, can’t see God , beyond us

Immanent
God is in the world, we can know God, God is active in the world

Impersonal God
Some people believe that God exists, but that God exists outside our world (transcendent) and therefore we can’t know God. He is impersonal. A deist believes in an impersonal God.

Personal
Some people think that God exists and can be known to us (immanent). Therefore God is personal. A theist believes in a personal God.

Incarnate/incarnation
This is the Christian belief that God became a person (“become flesh and dwelt among us “John 1). Jesus is God incarnate. The incarnation is when Jesus was born as a baby at Christmas.

Omnibenevolent
This is the belief that God is all loving

Omnipotent
This is the belief that God is all powerful

Omniscient
This is the belief that God is all knowing – knows everything

Omnipresent
This is the belief that God is all present, ie everywhere at the same time (the Holy spirit.)
