What occurs during the M Phase?
Cell growth stops and mitosis happens. Condensation of chromatin ensures that cell is ready to complete mitosis.

What occurs during G0 (gap 0) phase?
This is the resting phase, triggered by early G1. Cells undergo apoptosis, neurones stay in this phase for a long time.
2 of 5
What occurs during G1 (gap 1) phase?
Cells grow and increase, transcription of genes makes RNA. Organelles duplicate and the p53 gene helps control this phase.
3 of 5
What occurs during the synthesis phase?
Now the cell cycle can be completed, DNA replicates rapidly to reduce the chance of mutation. Once all chromosomes are duplicated, each consists of a pair of identical chromatids.

What occurs during G2 (gap 2) phase?
Cells grow and special chemicals ensure the cell is ready for mitosis by stimulating proteins involved in condensing chromosomes and spindle formation.
