there were no police in manchester at this time, so the army and a cavelry group called the 15th Hussars were sent to stop dissruption, They attempted to arrest Hunt, however when people defended him, they hit back with force.

the Gov. congratulated the army : Hunt was sent to prison for 2+ years: meetings of 50+ people were banned: a tax was issued on news papers to reduce negetive comments on government and reduced the number of working class people reading them.
