Describe and explain the trend in boiling points and physical states of group 7 elements as you go down the group.
The group 7 elements increase in boiling points down the group due to increasing numbers of electrons that create increased van der Waals forces. Therefore the physical states go from gas to liquid to solid and the boiling points increase.
1 of 7
When you combust a group 2 element what products are formed?
A metal oxide (white)
2 of 7
When a group 2 element reacts with water what products are formed?
Metal hydroxide and water
3 of 7
When you thermally decompose a group 2 element what will form?
A metal oxide and CO2
4 of 7
When a group 2 metal carbonate reacts with acid what is formed?
Salt, water and CO2
5 of 7
When Chlorine is added to a solution of Bromide ions what reaction will take place? What colour change will oocur?
Chlorine will displace the Bromide ions. The cyclohexane layer will be brown and the bottom solution will be a pale green.
