Defendants were not allowed to mount a defence. Judges were prepared to accept evidence that had been collected under torture. Nowell acted as a prosecutor during the trials.

The murder of Robert Nutter by Old Chattox. Jennet accused Elizabeth of being a witch for around three years.

What were the Samlesbury Witch trials?
Three women were accused of witchcraft by a 14 year old girl. Bromley threw the case out because the girl (Grace Sowerbutts) was under the influence of a Catholic priest.

He kept an account of the trials, which was heavily checked by Bromley and Altham before its publication in 1613.
