learned behaviour to bring out pre-determined results
skill
1 of 43
inherited, innate, stable traits that determine a persons potential to acquire skills e.g. coordination, balance or speed of reactions
agilty
2 of 43
a series of genertically inherited traits that determine an individuals coordination, balance and speed of reactions
motor ability
3 of 43
to be able to take in information, recognise it and make sense of it
perceptual ability
4 of 43
the use of the brain to reason and problem solve as a result of learning and experience
cognitive skill
5 of 43
selecting, interpreting and making sense of the information from our senses
perceptual skill
6 of 43
movement decided upon and controlled by the brain
pyscho-motor skill
7 of 43
what is an open skill?
affected by the environment, or performed in a dynamic changing situation or environment
8 of 43
what is a closed skill?
skill performed in a stable, unchanging environment, where the environment has little or no impact on the performance of the skill
9 of 43
a skill that is initiated by something other than the performer. The pace at which the skill is performed is dictated by factors other than the performer
externally paced
10 of 43
the performer decides when the movement is begun and the pace at which the movement is performed
self paced skill
11 of 43
gross skill
a strong powerful movement requiring the use of the major muscle group. Where fine control is not possible or required
12 of 43
Fine skill
small, precise movement showing high levels of accuracy and coordination, using small muscle groups
13 of 43
no clear beginning and end, one end phase of the movement blends into the start phase of the next cycle
continuous skill
14 of 43
series of specific movements (often discrete) chained together in a sequence
serial skill
15 of 43
a movement with a clear beginning and end
discrete skill
16 of 43
seeing/hearing/feeling etc, all the things that are going on around you
input
17 of 43
the environment that provides information for the senses
display
18 of 43
sense organs detect information and recognise it for what it is
stimulus identification stage
19 of 43
the process of acquiring, interpreting, selecting and organising sensory information
perception
20 of 43
information about the movement of our body in space' it's balance, position of limbs etc
proprioception
21 of 43
a sense that tells the brain about the movement of muscles, tendons and joints
kinaesthesis
22 of 43
involves detecting the stimulus, comparing that stimulus to information stored in the memory, and recognising and identifying that stimulus
DCR process (detection, comparison and recognition)
23 of 43
the process of picking out and focusing on those parts of the display that are relevant to our performance
selective attention
24 of 43
set of storage areas which are places to put information, plus a set of processes that act on what is in the stores
memory
25 of 43
storing information
encoding
26 of 43
large capacity, temporary store for all incoming sensory information
short term sensory store
27 of 43
the working memory, - relates to what we are thinking about at any given moment in time
short term memory
28 of 43
a store of past experiences of almost limitless capacity and long duration
long term memory
29 of 43
what is chaining
simplifying an action by reducing it into smaller links in a chain of events
30 of 43
what is mental rehearsal
'running through' a performance in ones mind
31 of 43
what is response selection
deciding how to respond; deciding what to do
32 of 43
the time from the start of the response or movement to end of movement
movement time
33 of 43
the time from stimulus being given to the end of the response
response time
34 of 43
the time taken between stimulus and action which requires a choice
choice reaction time
35 of 43
time taken to start a single response to an single stimulus
simple reaction time
36 of 43
the more choices there are, the slower will be your reaction time
hicks law
37 of 43
is guessing a movement that will be needed
spatial anticipation
38 of 43
is guessing what is about to happen
temporal anticipation
39 of 43
the delay in the response to the second of two closely spaced stimuli.
psychological refractory period
40 of 43
response selection is?
choosing a motor programme
41 of 43
a series of muscle contractions that produce a movement, stored in long term memory
motor programme
42 of 43
what is a sub-routine?
separate movements that make up a whole skill

Its good but for the second slide it should be ability and agility, I think that was a typo but thank you for putting this out there :)
