Cognitive performer
A beginner/ novice. They make lots of mistakes and need to consciously think about the skills they perform.

Associative performer
An intermediate performer. They make a lot less mistakes and no longer need to think AS hard as the cognitive performer, but are still not on the elite level.

Autonomous performer
An elite / world-class player. They make little to no mistakes when they play and no longer have to think about their next moves, it is drilled into them through constant practice, like a habit.

Open Skill
A skill performed in a changing environment/ or in a situation where you have to adapt to external factors eg opposition in games

Closed skill
A skill performed in a stable and unchanging environment.

Gross Skill
A skill performed using lots of muscles in the movement.
6 of 12
Fine skill
A skill performed using smaller or less muscles in the movement.
7 of 12
Discrete skill
A clear beginning and end. eg a volley in football or a serve in tennis.

Serial skill
A sequence of discrete skills linked together eg the triple jump or a gymnastics routine.

Continuous skill
A movement that is ongoing with no clear beginning and end eg long distance cycling or swimming.

Low-Organized skill
A skill that can be easily be broken down into parts eg swimming strokes - legs, arms, breathing, body position

High-Organized skill
A skill that cannot be easily broken into parts eg a volley in football
