What is meant by the term ‘static strength’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses static strength.
Static strength is the ability to exert a force against an immovable object. It is used in rugby when two scrums of the same weight push against each other.

What is meant by the term ‘explosive strength / power’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses explosive strength / power.
Explosive strength is a force exerted in a short, sharp movement. It is used in when throwing the shot with maximum force in spot put.

What is meant by the term ‘dynamic strength / muscular endurance’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses dynamic strength / muscular endurance
Dynamic strength is shown when exerting a force for a period of time. It is used when exerted a force through an oar for a long period when rowing.

What is meant by the term ‘speed’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses speed.
Speed is how fast you can move some or all of your body part at one time to complete an action/movement. It is needed during a 100m race when the legs are needed to move as fast as possible to run quickest.

What is meant by the term ‘suppleness / flexibility’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses suppleness / flexibility’c strength.
Flexibility is the range of movement around a joint. It is needed at the ball and socket joint at the shoulder during the bowling action in cricket.

What is meant by the term ‘coordination’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses coordination.
Cooridnation is the ability to use two or more body parts together. It is needed in football, when the goalkeeper must use both his eyes and his hands to see and block/catch the ball.

What is meant by the term ‘agility’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses agility.
Agility is the ability to change direction quickly while keeping in control of your body. It is needed in football when changing direction whilst dribbling to get past an opposition defender.

What is meant by the term ‘reaction time’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses reaction time.
Reaction time is the time taken for a muscle to respond to a stimulus. For example, the the time taken to respond to a serve in table tennis by hitting the ball back.

What is meant by the term ‘balance’? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses balance.
Balance is the ability to maintain your body mass over a base of support whilst moving or static.

What is meant by the term ‘timing? Give an example from a physical activity where a performer uses timing.
Timing is the ability to produce the correct movement at the correct time. For example, do the correct serving movement in tennis to hit the ball at the right time for it to go over the net.
