Carry oxygenated blood (except pulmonary artery) at high pressure, from the heart to the body. They have thick walls made of elastic fibres, and have narrow channels (lumen) to maintain high pressure.
Arteries

Carry deoxygenated blood (except pulmonary veins) at low pressure, from the body to the heart. Contains valves to prevent backflow and have thin walls. Have wide channels (lumen) to ease the flow of blood.
Veins

Allow the exchange of materials between tissue sand blood. Have thin walls that are only one cell thick. Have channels (lumen) the width of one cell, which distort the cells and aid gaseous exchange.
Capillaries

Transport oxygen from the lungs to the body's cells, and carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs; contains haemoglobin, which stores oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Red Blood Cells

Produce antibodies to fight against infectious diseases.
White Blood Cells

Tiny cell fragments that clump together to help blood clot and stop bleeding.
Platelets
6 of 7
The fluid parts of the blood that carries the other components (platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells) throughout the body.
