how do average speed cameras work?
in motorways, they use two different cameras. one as you entre the speed check area and one as you leave it. the record the time it takes you to travel the known speed and use that to work out a average.
1 of 23
how do speed cameras work?
lines painted on road, used to measure the distance travelled by car. photo is taken as it passes the first and second line. the photos measure the distance travelled by the the car in this time.

5 of 23
what could you do to reduce the friction between two sufaces
put a lubricant like oil or grease on it
6 of 23
friction is a force that always acts in the ______ direction to movement
oppisite
7 of 23
what is the formula for weight?
mass X gravitational field strength
8 of 23
what is terminal speed?
when a falling object reaches its maxium speed
9 of 23
if an object has zero resultant force on it, can it be moving?
yes
10 of 23
if there is an unbalanced force, the object will ________ in the direction of the force
accelerate
11 of 23
what are the two different parts of the overall stopping distance of a car?
thinking distance and braking distance
12 of 23
list three factors that affect each of the two parts of the stopping distance.
thinking distance = tirdness, alchol, distractions and speed. braking distnace = road conditions, car conditions and speed
13 of 23
the greater the mass or velocity, the more ________ it has.
momentum
14 of 23
list two features that prevent accidents .
ABS breaks and traction control- these prevent car from skidding. Electic controls and paddle shift controls-the driver has less to do, therefore stays in control better.
15 of 23
list two features that reduce injuries in a crash
safety cage: this surround people in a crash and it dosent change shape. Crumple zones and air bags: these change shape during an impact to reduce the force acting on the passengers.
16 of 23
why do seat belts need to be replaced after a crash.
because the seat belts were strechted and would not be as effective.
17 of 23
what happens to the KE when you double the mass
the KE doubles
18 of 23
what happens to the KE when you double the speed
the KE quadruples
19 of 23
describe the relationship between the power rating of a car and its fuel consuption
the larger or more powerful and engine, the more energy it transfers from its fuel every second. this means it has a higher fuel consumption
20 of 23
give two ways to reduce the fuel consumption of a car or lorry by reducing drag.
the wedge shape of a sports car makes them streamlined. defelctors on lorries and caravans are shaped bits of plastic.
21 of 23
why might we have to rely on biofuled or solar-powered cars in the future?
because petrol and diesal are not renewable
22 of 23
electric vehicals dont give out polluting gases when you drive them, but the still cause pollution. why?
pollution is created during there production
