Name 3 advantages of photocells
They are robust, they need no fuel or long power cables and they cause no pollution and don't contribute to global warming
1 of 6
How do photocells work?
Two pieces of silicon together, one has impurity to produce excess free electrons, other abscene of electrons. Sunlight contains photons, make electrons move which produces elec current.
2 of 6
What radiation doe the sun produce
Infa red.
3 of 6
How does passive solar heating occur
Glass is transparent to IR radiation. So the walls and floor in a building warm up and re radiate IR radiation. The floor and walls produce longer wavelength radtion, and the glass reflects this back inside as it is a longer wavelength than the sun.
4 of 6
What happens to a wind turbine if the wind speed is to great or there is no wind
It doesn't work
5 of 6
Problems with Wind turbines?
Noisy, take up a lot of space, spoils the view.
