How do we connect to a socket?
Using a cable and a three pin plug.

What is the outer cover of a plug made out of? Why?
Plastic or rubber as it is a good insulator.

What are the pins in the plug made of? Why?
Brass, good conductor, hard and won't oxidise.

What is the longest pin?
The earth wire.

Why do we have a cable grip?
So that you can't see any of the wires.

Where must the cables be?
Firmly connected to the terminal of the correct pin.

What is the brown wire connected to?
The live pin.

What is the blue wire connected to?
The neutral pin

What is the green and yellow wire connected to?
Earth pin.

What does a 2 core cable not have?
An earth wire.

What must appliances with metal casing be? How?
Earthed, the case is attached to the earth wire in the cable.

Why are plastic cased appliances not earthed?
As they have double insulated.

A thicker cable.
