What is visible light made of?
A combination of waves of different frequency and wavelength (and so colours) that are out of phase with each other
1 of 8
What makes a laser beam different?
All waves are the same wavelength and frequency, it is one single, pure colour. Waves are all in phase
2 of 8
Do lasers have a low or high divergence?
Low. Unlike normal light it doesnt spread out as the distance increases
3 of 8
What does the surface of a CD contain?
Billions of shallow pits. Between pits are called lands
4 of 8
How does a CD work?
Laser is reflected from the shiny surface, reflection from land and pit is slightly different which can be changed into an electrical signal.
5 of 8
What can infrared be used for in the home?
Cooking, remote controls, transmitting info between mobiles and computers (only short distances), security systems, instead of visible light
6 of 8
What is infrared also known as?
Heat radiation
7 of 8
What can infrared be used for due to it being given out by hot objects?
Monitor temperatures e.g. heat loss through a roof
