How does energy flow?
Energy, in the form of heat, flows from a warmer to a colder body. When energy flows away from a warm object, the temperature of that object decreases.
1 of 12
What is a thermogram?
It uses colour to show temperature. Hottest areas = white/yellow. Coldest areas = black/blue/purple
2 of 12
Whta is meant by temperature?
This is a measure of hotness.
3 of 12
What happens when the temperature of a body increases?
The avarage kinetic energy increases.
4 of 12
What is meant by heat?
This is a measure of internal energy.
5 of 12
What is meant by Specific Heat Capacity?
The energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg by 1 'c. Units = J/kg 'c
6 of 12
What happens when an object is heated and its temperature rises?
Energy is transferred.
7 of 12
What is the equation of Specific Heat Capacity?
Energy transferred = mass x specific heat capacity x temperature rise
8 of 12
What is meant by specific latent heat?
The energy needed to melt or boil 1 kg of that material. Units = J/kg
9 of 12
What happens to an object when it's heated and it changes state?
Energy is trasferred but the temperature remains constant.
10 of 12
What is the equation of specific Latent Heat?
Energy transferred = mass x specific latent heat
11 of 12
What happens when a substance changes state?
Energy is needed to break the bonds that hold the molecules together - this is why there is no chhange in temperature.
