What is osmosis?
The movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a partially permeable membrane.
1 of 6
What is a partially permeable membrane?
A membrane that contains small holes only allowing small molecules like water through
2 of 6
Why can water molecules pass both ways in osmosis?
They are always moving randomly
3 of 6
Is there a steady flow of net movement?
Yes, of water molecules into the area with fewer water molecules (stronger sugar solution)
4 of 6
What happens to the stronger solution?
It becomes more dilute as the concentration is trying to balance
5 of 6
What is osmosis a type of?
Diffusion
