what is diffusion?
the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
1 of 5
what is osmosis?
the movement of water particles across a partially permeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration
2 of 5
what is active transport?
the movement of particles from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration, going up the concentration gradient
3 of 5
what is an example of active transport?
in the digestive system when the gut has a high concentration than in the blood, the particles are diffused naturally to the blood. but when the gut has a lower concentration of nutrients, active transport allows nutrients to reach the blood even
4 of 5
what is the difference between diffusion and active transport?
diffusion goes down the concentration gradient, active transport goes up. active transport needs energy released by respiration of cells but diffusion doesn't
