How to test for carboxylic acids, aldehydes/ketones, types of alcohols and haloalkanes
CA= add carbonate, efferevence. A/K= tollens reagent, with A produces silver mirror. A= K2Cr2O7 1:orange to green 2:green 3:nothing. H= Cl- white, Br- cream, I- yellow them ammomia to dissolve
1 of 7
What reactions are nucleophilic subsition ones?
reactions with haloalkanes: producing an alcohol or amine from haloalkane. replacment of atoms or groups of atoms
2 of 7
What reactions are addition reactions?
Electrophilic: with alkenes e.g test for unsaturation, or with HBR to form haloalkane. Nucleophilic: need double bonds, aldehyde/ketone to alcohol or to hydroxynitrile
3 of 7
What is an elimination reaction?
molecule loses atom or groups of atoms. formation of alkene from haloalkane
4 of 7
What reactions are electrophilic subsitution?
reactions with benezene as ring so stable: nirtation and friedel crafts acylation
5 of 7
What happens in an esterification reaction?
carboxylic acid heated with alcohol and conc. H2SO4 catalyst to produce ester (and water as byproduct)
6 of 7
What study is evidence for age affecting the accuracy of eyewitness testimony?
parker and carranza- children higher rate of correct photo idenitfication than adults. Memon-when short delay little difference between ages but older witnesses less accurate after 1 week
