Plasma Membrane (Cell Surface)
Found on the surface of animal cells inside the cell wall of plant cells and prokaryotic cells. Its made mainly of lipids and proteins. Function : Regulate the movment of substances into and out of cell. It also has receptor molecules for cell signal
1 of 8
Cell Wall
Rigid structure that surrounds plant cells. Made mainly of the carbohydrate cellulose. Function: Support plant cells.
2 of 8
Nucleus
Large organelle surrounded by a nuclear envelope which contains many pores. Function: hold DNA and allows substances like RNA to move between the nucleus and cytoplasm for protein production and mitosis.
3 of 8
Lysosome
Round organelle surrounded by a membrane with no clear internal sturctue. Function: Contains digestive enzymes used for digesting invading cells.
4 of 8
Ribosome
A very small organelle that either floats free in the cytoplasm or attached to the RER. Function: Production of proteins
5 of 8
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
A system of membranes enclosing a fluid-filled space. The surface is covered with ribosomes. Function: Folds and processes proteins made at the ribosome
6 of 8
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Similar to RER but no ribosomes. Function: Synthesises and processes lipids
7 of 8
Vesicles
A small fluid-filled sac in cytoplasm, surrounded by a membrane. Function: Transport subtances
