external skin, inner mucous. epithelium of skin is keratiniesed stratified squamous. mucous membrane is non-keratinised. vermollion border-actual lip bit. has many blood vessels but no glands.cheeks same

describe the gingiva
these are the gums, dense fibrous tissue. and mucous membrane attached to teeth. continuous with preiodontal ligament that anchors teeth to bone

describe the tongue-papilla
muscular organ covered in mucous membrane. smooth lower side with nodules due to lympatic tissue. rough on topdue to papillae.

vallate papillae
contain taste buds and opening of glands (found at back of tongue)

bright red spots on the tip and contain taste buds

projections with tips keratinised.

parotid gland-opens up but upper second molar tooth, sublingual gland and submandibular gland
