What are stereoisomers?
Molecules that have the same molecular formula and also have their atoms bonded in the same order, but these atoms are arranged differently in space.

An atom which has four different groups of atoms attached to it.

What are enantiomers (optical isomers)?
Molecules which have a non super-imposable mirror images.

What is the CORN rule?
When you note the direction of the sequence of COOH,R, NH2 in an enantiomer.

What is the L isomer?
The enantiomer which follows the CORN rule clockwise.

What is the D isomer?
The enantiomer which follows the CORN rule anticlockwise.

How do enantiomers differ?
Enantiomers behave differently in the presence of other chiral molecules. The body has many chiral molecules - enzymes, hormones etc, so enantiomers often smell, taste and work differently as medicines.
