An operating software (OS) is a collection of software allowing the computer to run as a useful device

It manages hardware, user interface and applications software running on the computer. Without the OS the computer would not function.

OS that allows more than one user to be logged in and share resources at the same time. *Not computer system with different logins!*

Embedded OS only runs 1 application.

ATM's, Ticket machines, Traffic lights etc.

What is a distributed OS?
Distributed OS controls and coordinates a collection of independent computers, that will appear to the user as though they are a single system.

Film animations and CGI, Long term data mining.

What is the purpose of a Real Time OS?
To carry out actions within a guaranteed amount of time. Usually responds in milliseconds.
